Tropical Storm Fay Moving Westward South of Cuba

Tropical Storm Fay continues on its track south of Cuba this afternoon. Movement is toward the west northwest at a faster rate of 17 mph; a gradual turn toward a more northerly direction is expected. It has strengthened slightly from yesterday to maximum winds of 50 mph.

Various hurricane and tropical storm watches and warnings are in effect for:
  • Florida Keys
  • Southern, southwestern, and southeastern coasts of Florida
  • Lake Okeechobee
  • Large portions of the coast of Cuba
  • Grand Cayman
The tropical storm watch for Jamaica has been discontinued.

There is still considerable uncertainty in model forecasts of the storm's track and intensity, but strengthening to hurricane force before reaching Florida is likely.
